50 Yard Range Rules
-
The 50 yard ranges may not be used when the 200/300 yard range is in use. Do not attempt to enter the range area when the 200/300 YARD RANGE IN USE sign is up on the range gate.
-
There are two 50 yard ranges, and these are treated as two separate ranges. Range 1 is to the west (on the left when facing down range), and range 2 is to the east. The west range is generally used for shooting at 50 yards or less, while the east range is generally used for 50 yard shooting only.
-
Each shooter is responsible for acting as a range officer. A shooter wishing to go down range must obtain the agreement to cease fire from other shooters on the range, and when all shooting is stopped, the range status is "cold" and people may move down range. When everyone has returned from down range and are behind the yellow safety line, the shooters must agree that shooting may commence, and that the range is "hot".
-
Any person may call a cease fire at any time.
-
Pistol and .17 or .22 caliber rim fire rifle may be loaded to capacity.
-
Center fire rifle may be sighted-in on a 50 yard range, but must be loaded and fired single shot.
-
Shoot at regular targets only suspended under cable on boards provided. No cans, bottles, shotgun shells, etc.
-
No rapid fire. "Rapid fire" is defined by the NRA or the shooting discipline which the shooter is practising. "Rapid fire" in the context of this rule means shooting the firearm as rapidly as possible with no object other than emptying the magazine.
-
Shooters may use firing positions nearer to the targets than the regular 25 or 50 yards lines.
When this occurs, the farthest forward firing position is the firing line. All shooting must be done from this line until the firing line is moved to a different distance from the targets.
-
Keep guns unloaded and actions open at all times, except when on the firing line when ready to fire.
-
Keep guns grounded and actions open when anyone is forward of the firing line (red line).
-
Stay behind firing line when others are shooting.
-
Stay behind safety line (yellow line) when anyone is down range (beyond the red line).
-
Fire in established directions only, with the berm as the backstop.
-
Keep guns pointed down, and down range at all times.
-
When transporting firearms to firing positions nearer the targets than the 50 yard line, muzzles should be pointed down, and down range.
-
Range 2 has a railroad tie which is to be used to support metallic targets. Do not use the railroad ties as a target or a backstop for targets.
-
Hearing and eye protection is required.
-
Police range after shooting, and remove targets and place them in a trash barrel.
